Buying ribbons can be confusing. There are a large number of ribbon categories on the market with several styles, tags, designations and labels. All have the potential to make the selection of the correct ribbon challenging. To help you to choose the right ribbon for your ID card printer, below is a quick guide to some of the codes used.
Principal codes:
- Y: Yellow
- M: Magenta
- C: Cyan
- K: Black to produce a higher black print quality
- O: Overlay or
- T: Topcoat to protect badges and pictures from wear and tear
- d: Dye sublimation
Codes explained:
- KO: Black + Overlay
- KT: Black + Topcoat
- KdO: Black dye Sublimation + Overlay
- YMCK: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black
- YMCKK: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black + additional Black for the reverse of the card
- YMCKT: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black + Topcoat
- YMCKO: Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black + Overlay
